Section 53 "ROTHSAY" BEEF FITTER COMPETITION

Objective
To recognize the ability of youth teams to fit beef animals for the show ring.

Regulations
N .B. ANY PERSONS WHO HAVE PREVIOUSLY WON THE CHAMPION BEEF FITTER COMPETITION MAY NOT COMPETE AGAIN.
In addition to the general Fair rules & regulations the following shall apply:
1. Ages of Entrants: Open to youths ages 10 to 21 years as of January 1, 2008 whose permanent residence is anywhere in Ontario.
2. Team Composition: Each team will consist of two members - one under 15 years of age and one 15 years or older. Consultation between team members is encouraged. External advice during the competition, on preparation techniques, is not allowed.
3. Entries will be accepted by the Fair General Manager up to and including the closing date of September 21, 2008. Pre-entry by the closing date is required. All Entrants to check in with the Registration Desk between 12 p.m. & 12:45 p.m. on Show Day. A maximum of eight teams will be selected from the entries by means of a draw. Teams accepted will be notified by September 30th, 2007. Please include a brief profile of each team member for use by the M.C.
4.  Rockton Fair will provide each team with a beef calf that is wet at the start of the competition. Calves will be allocated on a draw basis. Each team will also receive two admission tickets and two meal vouchers.
5. Teams shall supply their own blower (1), combs, brushes, halters, blocking chute and grooming aids for the competition. Electrical outlets will be provided. No clippers, scissors or trimming accessories may be used during the competition.
6. Time Allowed: Each team will be allowed 60 minutes for preparation. (Blowing included)
7. Judging Criteria:
     *Each team will be judged on ability to prepare the calf it has drawn. All calves will not be of equal conformation and therefore the objective of each team is to prepare its calf in a manner that takes it from the original state to as close as possible to the true type.
     * Each team will be judged on animal preparation, knowledge of fitting techniques, method of operation, use of time available, deportment & professionalism and ability to work as a team. Teams are to be properly attired for animal preparation.

1st Prize Team - $150
and two individualized prizes;
2nd Prize Team - $100;
3rd - 8th Prize Teams - $50
